The Pittsburgh antique and collecting scene is about to get a lot more exciting! A new show is in town – the Old Allegheny Antique Show!  This inaugural show will be held the weekend of September 12th-13th here at Calvary. The show will bring together up to 20 dealers from Pennsylvania and Ohio specializing in a diverse assortment of fine antiques and collectibles. Whether you are looking for that perfect accent piece for your home, that missing item in your collection, or a unique gift for that someone special – this show is the place to be!  Also, immediately following the show, spend some time listening to a special recital featuring the organ and our very own Music Director Brian Burns.

Members of Calvary UMC

You have the opportunity to either consign or donate items for the Calvary table. If an item is consigned, a price will be agreed upon for the item, and the consignor will receive 50% of the selling price. If items are not sold, the consignor is responsible for retrieving the item from the church after the sale. If an item is donated, and the item does not sell, it will be kept for a future sale unless the donor wants it back after the sale. All items must be at the church by Tuesday, September 8th.

We also have opportunities to volunteer.  Jobs that need to be filled are the following:
  • Food Preparation
  • Food Sale
  • Consignment/Donation Table
  • Saturday Concert

A sign-up form will be inserted into the Sunday bulletins over the next few weeks prior to the show. Please return the completed form to Karen Ferguson, Jenn Golling, or place in the collection plate. There is also a form below that you can print out (right click on the registration form picture, choose "Save picture as..." from the drop-down menu, then print the saved picture) then email to either Karen Ferguson or Jenn Golling. If it is easier, you can simply email the requested information rather than fill out the form.

Calling All Women!

Have you heard about United Methodist Women?  Did you know that hundreds of thousands of women around the world are a part of this organization? The organization had its beginning almost 150 years ago when Methodist women gathered together realizing that women and children in the United States and around the world needed help and were not being served by male missionaries. The organization has a long history of aid and service to women, children, and youth.

Did you know that Calvary used to have a local unit of United Methodist Women? Somehow it has gotten lost over the years but we can begin again. Many of us could once again enjoy the company of women supporting one another in community and action.

The purpose of UMW: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. From the purpose you see that the organization exists to support one another and gather funds for hundreds of mission projects around the world. Anyone and everyone is welcome to become a member of our local unit.

We are planning to have an event for women this fall so watch for future information. If you would like more information please contact Joan Bradley at

Calvary UMC Vacation Bible School 2015

"Water, Wonders, and Miracles"

As you are probably aware, Calvary held its Vacation Bible School program the 2nd week of August for the children of this church as well as children of our extended family and surrounding communities.
Almost 60 children attended this year's program. We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers who came and gave their time, and also to everyone that contributed in some way to make this year’s VBS program our most successful to date. Also, a special word of thanks to Christina Kautchick for bringing her special gifts to Calvary’s children programs.

Please enjoy the below video slideshow of the pictures taken during VBS, and turn up your volume while you watch it.

Sunday School Corner is the segment of the monthly newsletter that allows everyone to see what goes on in Sunday School at Calvary: the lessons the children are learning, the bible verses they are memorizing, the activities they are participating in, and the special relationships they are forming with the other children in Calvary's congregation.

Do not be afraid for I am your God.
- Isaiah 41:10

Each child made a baby Moses wrapped tightly. They were told the story of how the baby came to be placed in the river to be saved by the princess.

The Golden Rule

Bible Verse
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
- Matthew 7:12

The children had a fun filled class with work books and a scavenger hunt. They also did some measurements on themselves with a ruler... How do I measure up?
