Distinguished Professor Takatoshi Ito in Chile

Dr. Takatoshi Ito, a world-renowned Professor of International and Public Affairs and Associate Director for Research at Columbia’s Center on Japanese Economy and Business, will visit Chile in mid-August to participate in a series of academic events. The Columbia Global Centers / Latin America (Santiago) has teamed-up with the Fundación Chilena del Pacífico to host a roundtable discussion on the economic and financial outlook for Japan, the United States and Chile, which will be attended by SIPA alumni, local intellectuals and economists specialized in the Asia-Pacific region.  Dr. Ito will also give an open lecture at the School of Economics and Business at Universidad de Chile. His visit to Chile is being sponsored by Mitsui.

Chris Emdin, world topmost STEM and HipHopED expert
Teachers College’s ‪Chris Emdin, a world topmost‪ STEM and HipHopED expert, visited Chile to participate in Fundación Chile's EdLab Chile 2015. Among his many activities, he gave a public lecture, led a workshop for Chilean teachers and school leaders, and met with Fundación Luksic’s team in charge of promoting education for low-income students. Watch his cool rap on the Columbia Global Centers, Latin America - Santiago. Course on the Optimization of Online Marketplaces
In early July, Gabriel Weintraub, Sidney Taurel Associate Professor at Columbian Business School, taught a course on economics and optimization of online marketplaces at Universidad de Chile's School of Ingeniería Industrial.

During his lecture -attended by faculty, graduate and practitioners- Weintraub provided an overview of recent research that improves understanding of online markets focusing on how market operators should design them, taking into account their operational details as well as their engineering and technological constrains.

Head of Center for the Core Curriculum visited Chile

Professor Roosvelt Montás, Director of Columbia's Center for the Core Curriculum
In June, Professor Roosvelt Montás, Director of Columbia's Center for the Core Curriculum, travelled to Chile to participate in a series of internal eventos organized by Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI). He taught a seminar targeting faculty members of UAI's Facultad de Artes Liberales and Escuela de Gobierno aimed at analyzing and comparing the teaching of liberal arts both in Chile and the United States. He explained the genesis and basics of Columbia's Core Curriculum, reviewed its programs and went over the methodology used in its design. In the picture, professor Montás with Lucía Santa Cruz, member of Board of UAI.
