What have we been up to?

So far 2017 has been super exciting for Fallen Angels Dance Theatre alongside our very busy schedule of weekly recovery dance theatre community groups in Chester, Leigh Liverpool, and Salford. We had performances of full length dance theatre production “Upon Awakening”. Sold out at Royal Opera House Clore studio, an article in Dancing Times and One Dance Uk magazine March editions.

We had an amazing response from the audience “The Q&A afterwards blew me away with people sharing their journeys and experiences making the evening a rollercoaster of emotions.
No one gets to perform at the Royal Opera House who hasn't earned that right through hard work and determination, these guys are up there with the rest and I wish them all the luck in the world and look forward to the next time I can join them."

Looking forward:

We have just started The Royal Opera House’s ROH links programme is year-long partnership programme that helps people and projects to thrive, drawing on the skills, expertise and perspectives of people working at the Royal Opera House and encouraging wider networking. We are delighted to announce also our partnership with Storyhouse - Chester’s brand new cultural centre: theatre, cinema, library, studio theatre, restaurant, and bar housed in a rejuvenated 1930s art deco Odeon cinema building which is due to open in May this year.  You can find more details about Storyhouse here

During May we have been invited to Buckingham Palace’s Garden Party with the Royal Family and to DrugFAM’s Service of Celebration and Hope at Westminster Abbey.. where we look forward to raising awareness and talking about the inspirational people in recovery that we have the privilege of working with.

Project in focus: MAKE YOUR MARK at Turnpike Gallery - Leigh

Last week “Expression Leigh” performed and presented their project Make your Mark at Turnpike Gallery.

The group who have lived experience of addiction, recovery and/or mental health issues performed alongside art work which has been created by the group, this was also a launch for their own exhibition of art work, both in the gallery space and front window, complementing the Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition.

Cartwheel Arts  and Fallen Angels Dance Theatre have been collaborating with the group since January which was inspired by the current collection and will also celebrated the close of the stunning exhibition, The Jerwood Drawing Prize 2016, which marked the relaunch of the Turnpike Gallery in 2017.

A showcase of film, exhibitions and dance performances, Make your Mark is the culmination of an exploration of visual art and dance, interpreting mark making through large scale movement and drawings, visual art pieces created through dance and artworks used in performance.

Alongside Fallen Angels Dance Theatre, Expression Leigh and Cartwheel Arts, artists Elaine Fox of Art in the Community and Kirstie Henderson of Brave Day Films have collaborated on this project.

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, Turnpike Gallery and Henry Smith Charity are supporting this project and event.
