Update from the
Head of School
What a truly amazing year of success we have had at Fairfield; awards galore but now we are getting close to the holidays and time to rest, reflect and refresh.
Our Year 11 students have worked incredibly hard during the exam season and will be looking forward to great results on August 24th. This year has seen numerous changes to the GCSE exams system - moving to grades 1-9 and brand new exams in Maths and English. Ofqual and Ofsted have told all schools to expect unpredictable results but whatever the outcomes at Fairfield I know staff and students have worked tirelessly to get the very best results.
There have been many achievements across the year, the most recent being the launch of award winning films for the Sharp Shotz competition which have promoted a national campaign to support the work of the Autistic Society. One of the films has featured in the national media, getting well deserved coverage.
Our strong Business in the Community links with Burges Salmon has led to two awards for the school. We have won the mayor of Bristol Community Apprentice Award (well done Team Regen) and received the Bristol Post Employability Award for having outstanding work in careers and guidance. We picked up two other Awards from the Bristol Post - Headteacher of the Year, recognising Ms Mangham's contribution to the school and LSA of the Year for Mrs Wright. The list doesn't stop there... Ms Barnes received a special mention as she picked up her certificate from the German Embassy at the German Teacher of the Year Awards.
We have had a strong year of performance too with successes on our new sports field and enjoyable solo and group pieces at the recent Summer Gala. A real highlight for me was the performance in the Galleries by Year 7 as part of the Fairfield Against Apathy Campaign, run by our Head Boy - Romi Bhakard - the mixture of dance, poetry, rap and art work was hypnotic and moving.
Over the summer we will be holding our popular, annual Year 6 Summer School and providing support to other students to improve their achievements.
Finally, I would like to remind you that we start back at 8.40am on Wednesday 6th September for a new year full of opportunity and fresh beginnings. I have included an updated uniform code in a link below to support parents in picking the correct clothing and shoes over the summer.
